The D96 formula is the specified developer for classic b&w motion picture stocks such as BwXX (Double-X), Ferrania P30, Lomography (Orwo), etc… It also works great with modern T-grain films in addition to traditional film stocks. D96 is comparable to Kodak D-76, with similar contrast and developing times for most black and white films. They share a motion picture film processing pedigree, with D-76 having been formulated in 1926 as a motion picture film developer. Later on, Kodak made certain adjustments to the chemistry and released D96. To this day, D96 serves as the primary black and white developer used in the motion picture industry.
