Manuel DeLanda: ISM ISM

The gritty, decaying city backdrop reads like a fever dream for anyone into avant-garde history—DeLanda captures that raw, post-apocalyptic energy of 1970s NYC without romanticizing it. I was hooked by how he frames the collapse as a launching pad for artistic possibility, not just doom.

This book made me see the 1970s NYC art scene as a playground instead of a wasteland, and the way it frames economic collapse as creative fuel really stuck with me long after I put it down. If you're into theory but want it grounded in gritty, real-world energy, this one's a keeper.

The way DeLanda captures the raw energy of '70s New York makes you feel like you’re sneaking into abandoned lofts with those artists. It’s a gritty, inspiring look at how collapse can fuel creativity.
